The newspaper also publishes a US edition and its link-up with the US-based business has resulted in five sweaters. The hand-stitched phrases on them include “facts are sacred”, “for facts’ sake”, “fiercely independent”, “the whole picture”, and simply “The Guardian”.

A portion of proceeds will benefit the Guardian’s non-profit work “to strengthen and amplify independent journalism”.

The collection comes as the newspaper launches its first major US brand campaign and it’s planning a special launch event in conjunction with Lingua Franca next month. This will feature US editor Betsy Reed in conversation with the Guardian’s CEO Anna Bateson.

As for the sweaters themselves, they’re “made with a focus on natural materials, sustainable production and ethical labour”.

The Lingua Franca x The Guardian collection will be available in brand’s New York City store on Jane Street next month, as well as being online while stocks last.

Lingua Franca founder, Rachelle Hruska MacPherson, said: “We’ve always believed that fashion can be both beautiful and purposeful, pairing craft with conscience. We’re proud to support the Guardian and its vital mission championing truth, curiosity and accountability.”
