Finisterre in textile recycling initiative, launches related wool capsule collection

Outdoor brand Finisterre has introduced a closed-loop textile recycling project in collaboration with Camira Group’s sustainable textiles brand iinouiio, and recycling specialist Reskinned. The launch comes complete with a Revive capsule collection.

Led by textile recycling expert Dr John Parkinson, the “innovative” initiative “reinforces Finisterre’s commitment to reducing its impact through circular design principles – actively considering disassembly, recyclability and end-of-life solutions throughout the design process”.
Noting that the fashion industry generates over 92 million tonnes of textile waste annually, Finisterre said it’s making strides to transition its supply chain to regenerative and organic fibres, as recycling post-consumer waste “remains a major challenge”.
The project’s goal “is straightforward but ambitious”: to transform end-of-life Finisterre wool products into new, high-quality yarn in the UK.
Since 2021, Finisterre noted it has operated a take-back scheme in partnership with Reskinned, storing its end-of-life knitwear until a responsible solution for recycling the materials could be found.
Those garments now form part of the raw material for that Revive capsule. Each piece is made from 80% pre-consumer recycled wool, and 20% post-consumer recycled wool – including 5% Finisterre feedstock from the knitwear stored with Reskinned.
The capsule includes the ‘Dr John Revive Jumper’ (£135), a reimagined staple knit with versatile detailing, designed for both urban and coastal adventures, available in both a men’s and women’s cut; and the ‘Dr John Revive Beanie’ (£45), suitable for both the coast and city, crafted from recycled wool.
Dr Parkinson added: “Finisterre may still be navigating how to adjust working procedures for reclaimed materials, but what stands out is their openness to listen and figure it out.
“Working with smaller brands has been more fulfilling than collaborating with the ‘giants’, as they truly value UK manufacturing and have a decision-making process that aligns with how we work at iinouiio. I’m hopeful this project will inspire greater collaboration, helping turn what is often considered waste into valuable resources that can be reborn as new products.”
